Permits, power and what the roofs are actually like

Alachua permits through the county or the City of Gainesville, and Gainesville Regional Utilities runs its own interconnection with its own forms and its own queue. Gainesville adopted residential solar earlier than almost anywhere else in Florida thanks to a feed-in tariff programme in the late 2000s, so the county holds an unusually old installed base: original inverters well past their design life, racking from manufacturers that no longer exist, and installers who left the trade a decade ago. Those are rewarding systems to take over, because the panels themselves are usually still producing close to spec.

Alachua calls are old systems: early racking, first-generation inverters, and Gainesville's own utility paperwork that nobody outside the city knows how to file.
