Orphaned system rescue

Your solar company closed. Somebody still has to fix the roof.

More than a hundred solar companies shut down in a single year, and Florida took a lot of that damage. If your installer stopped answering, the equipment on your roof did not stop being yours. We take these systems over. Any brand, any original company.

Companies we take systems over from

These are the names we hear most from Florida homeowners. If yours is not here it does not matter, we service every brand and every original installer. Pick the closest one or just call.

The part nobody tells you

Half your warranty is probably still alive

A solar system carries two different warranties and people lose track of that when the installer disappears. The workmanship warranty, which covers the labour and the holes in your roof, belonged to the company that closed. That one is gone. The factory warranties on the panels, the inverter and the optimizers belong to the manufacturers who built them, and those run 10 to 25 years no matter who installed them.

The catch is that manufacturers will not accept a warranty claim from a homeowner. It has to come from a licensed solar contractor with the serial numbers and a written diagnosis. That is the piece we do, and it is why the repair often costs far less than people expect.

Before you call anyone

  • Take a photo of the inverter screen, faults and all
  • Find the panel brand on the label at the edge of a panel
  • Check whether you own the system or lease it, the paperwork says
  • Note the month it stopped producing, if you know it
  • Do not let anyone quote a full replacement before inspecting it

FAQ

Orphaned solar systems: common questions

My solar company went out of business. Is my warranty gone?

Only part of it. The workmanship warranty belonged to the company that closed, so that one is usually gone. The factory warranties on the panels, the inverter and the optimizers belong to the manufacturers, and those are still good, normally 10 to 25 years. They just need a licensed solar contractor to file the claim, because manufacturers will not take one from a homeowner.

Can you take over a system another company installed?

Yes. That is most of what we do. Any brand, any original installer, in business or not. We inspect what is actually on the roof, tell you in writing what is wrong and what is still covered, and then quote the repair.

Do I have to replace the whole system?

Almost never. In most orphaned systems the panels are fine and the problem is one inverter, a handful of optimizers, a bad connector, or a mount that was never flashed. Anyone who opens with a full replacement quote before inspecting it is selling, not diagnosing.

What does it cost to find out what is wrong?

We quote the inspection up front and it is a flat number, not an hourly meter. You get a written report of what is installed, what is failing, what is still under a factory warranty and what the repair costs. The report is yours whether or not you hire us for the fix.

I still owe money on a system that does not work. What now?

The loan and the equipment are two separate things, and the loan does not go away because the installer did. Get the system producing again first, because that is the part you can actually control, then take the written inspection report to the lender or the finance company. A report from a licensed contractor is worth far more than a phone call.

Are you connected to any of these companies?

No. Art of Solar has never been part of, owned by, or a dealer for any of them. We are an independent licensed and insured Florida solar contractor that services other people's systems.
