Permits, power and what the roofs are actually like

Lake permits through the county at Tavares or through Clermont, Leesburg, Eustis and Mount Dora. The county has two completely different halves. The Clermont and Four Corners side has exploded with newer construction, much of it with solar included from the builder, on clean shingle planes that detach easily. The older lakeside towns to the north are 1920s to 1960s housing with steeper pitches and original decking underneath. Lake borders our home route, so response here is closer to Tier 1 than most of the state.

What solar looks like in this part of Florida

Central Florida is where the state's solar boom hit suburban tract housing hardest. Whole subdivisions went up between 2015 and 2022 with panels included in the mortgage, sold by dealer networks that no longer exist. The roofs are young, the arrays are young, and the failures we find are almost never the panels: they are inverters, optimizers and attachments that were never torqued properly by a crew that was paid by the install.
