Miami-Dade County · Florida
Key Biscayne is a barrier island village where every roof sits a few blocks from salt water. Many of the modest 1950s houses the Mackle company built have given way to larger homes, and an array on any of them faces some of the harshest salt exposure in the county.

On the ground in Key Biscayne
The Village of Key Biscayne, incorporated in 1991, runs its own building, zoning and planning department, and FPL is the utility. The Mackle company began selling small block homes here in 1951 on land that had been a coconut plantation, and many of those lots now hold two-story houses with concrete tile or metal roofs. Hurricane Andrew flooded homes on the island in 1992, and voters have since approved major spending on storm and sea level protection. Salt spray is constant, so aluminum rails, stainless fasteners and sealed connectors are the minimum, and anything recovered from an old array is inspected closely before reuse. Every truck and every panel arrives over the Rickenbacker Causeway, and with Crandon Park to the north and Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park to the south, the residential core is compact and staging is tight.
On the residential streets off Crandon Boulevard, the typical job is a large newer home with an array on tile or metal, where pitted clamps and bonding hardware are swapped out during a reinstall. Remaining Mackle-era houses carry small systems on low roofs, and owners planning to rebuild ask whether the panels can move to the new house. Village rules on construction hours and staging shape the schedule, and we plan each trip over the causeway.

FAQ
Yes, every week. Key Biscayne is on our Orlando to Miami route, so it is normal scheduling with no travel charge, and the reinstall is lined up with your roofer's tear-off date.
Only a licensed solar or electrical contractor. Key Biscayne is inside Florida's High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, so every attachment needs documented product approval and the reinstall is inspected before the system comes back on.
Homes in Key Biscayne are generally served by FPL. When an array goes back on after a roof job the utility usually needs to know, and the building department normally inspects the reinstall before the system is switched back on.
It changes what fails first. Salt attacks rails, clamps and grounding hardware long before it hurts a panel, so near the water every fastener gets checked and anything corroded is replaced rather than reused.
